Lala Jagdalpuri Sahitya Puraskar
Lala Jagdalpuri (born 17 December 1920) is a Hindi litterateur. He is a resident of Bastar and is considered a representative poet of Chhattisgarhi poetry. Shringar Rasa predominates in his works written in Halbi dialect. The make-up and intoxicating portrayal of heroines is unique in Chhattisgarhi make-up literature.
Apart from being basically a Hindi poet, he also created substantial and notable works in the minor folk languages of Chhattisgarhi and Bastar. Many editions of his ‘Halbi Folktales’ have been published. His qualitative contribution to children's literature and writing has also been remarkable and commendable.
Along with writing, Jagdalpuri ji does teaching and farming work. He has immense love for Bastar. He started writing from 1936. Lalaji's life was dedicated to literary journalism.
He is the editor of the weekly 'Angara' published by Krishna Kumar from Jagdalpur, assistant editor of 'Deshbandhu' published by Thakur Pyare Lalji from Raipur, editor of 'Sevak' published by Jaydev Satpathyji from Mahasamund and He was the editor of the weekly 'Bastariya' published in Bastar's folk language 'Halbi' by Tushar Kanti Bose from Jagdalpur.
Chhattisgarh Government has established “Lala Jagdalpuri Sahitya Puraskar” for regional literature and folk poetry in his memory.
